Phoenix-based songwriting/production duo David Hilker and John Costello formed 2 da Groove (also known as 2 the Groove) in the mid-1990s. Operating out of their Phoenix studio, Wild Whirled Recording, they developed a distinctive brand of electronica while collaborating with a diverse roster of local singers and rappers.
Although they never landed a major-label deal, 2 da Groove caught the attention of Los Angeles music publishers, and their songs quickly secured sync placements in major films and television shows. In 1998, they signed with Fox Music to compose original music for Fox Kids Cartoons and Fox Family Channel. 2 da Groove created title theme songs, remixes, and underscores for a large swath of the networks’ offerings. This collaboration yielded notable success, including their score for the animated hit “Nascar Racers: Start Your Engines,” which reached #1 on the Billboard Magazine Video Charts.
Following the acquisition of Fox Family by Disney in 2001, 2 da Groove continued to produce music deep into the 2000s, further expanding their extensive creative catalog. Today, their legacy is maintained through the Fervor Records roster, with their work represented by artists such as Phunklogistix, London, Dawn Kerlin, Amber McFadden Dirks, Jennifer Tozzi, Taco, Dark Half, Zeni, Juanita Brown, and Diana Lee, where their songs and recordings continue to be licensed for film, television, and advertising.
