Christopher Blue was the brainchild of guitarist-singer-songwriter Doug Davis. Phoenix music impresario Floyd Ramsey signed the energetic young artist and his band Christopher Blue to his Ramco Records label in 1970. Davis was joined by Jeff Dingle (guitar), Jeff Hecht (guitar, bass, organ), Neal Keane (guitar, organ), Danny Wallace (drums, vocals), and Roger Stevenson (bass). Recording at Ramsey’s Audio Recorders of Arizona, the group added a horn section in the studio, riding the wave of popular horn bands of the era. Their debut single “Happy Just to Be Alive” b/w “You’ve Got What I Like” was released that same year. The talented Davis leveraged Ramsey’s enthusiasm for the project to launch the band’s own Ramco imprint, Blue Ram Records. In 1971, Blue Ram issued the 45 “It’s Not Too Late” b/w “Don’t Worry Tracy”. Later that same year, they followed with their third single, “I’m Gonna Let Her Know” b/w “Floating on a Cloud”. While Christopher Blue enjoyed massive regional success, the band faded into obscurity by the mid-1970s. Their songs have appeared in: Mad Men, The Blacklist, This Is Us, Renfield, Minx, Northern Rescue, Velma, Ashby, The Conjuring 2, and Ozark to name a few.
