Bio

When Gary McCray entered his first talent show at seven years old, the audience probably had no idea they were witnessing the beginning of a great career in music. McCray won that contest, gaining himself five silver dollars, bragging rights, and he even got to shake hands with Oklahoma’s then governor, Raymond Gary who called him a “Songster from Shawnee.” As an adult, McCray went on to write songs for country legends Charley Pride and Wynn Stewart before becoming Stewart’s band leader.

McCray has continued to write songs throughout his life and Fervor Records is honored to have obtained a collection of his songs from the 1970s that were recently unearthed including the tracks “Goin’ Places She Don’t Intend To Go” and “I’m Going Crazy.” This work shows a wonderful side of this talented country artist.
