Alt-rock band World in a Room climbed to the top of Cleveland, Ohio’s ’90s music scene through hard work, relentless gigging, strong songwriting, and prolific studio recordings. A staple on the regional circuit, World in a Room garnered plenty of local press and regular radio play due to their dynamic live show, appearances on local CD compilations, and their two self-released CDs, Dance on the Stones and Mood Circus. In his review of Mood Circus, Cleveland music critic Michael Norman praised the band’s effort, stating, “World in a Room has clearly established itself as Cleveland’s best mainstream modern-rock band.” The quartet—frontman and rhythm guitarist Jason Kilbey Smith, lead guitarist Kevin Bang, bassist Tim Brennan, and drummer Don Lisy—played to packed clubs, ballrooms, and festivals. The band was backed by Budweiser, performed on the Ticketmaster Music Showcase Tour, and earned a coveted spot at the SXSW music festival in Austin, TX. After four years, World in a Room disbanded, but their legacy lives on at Fervor Records.
