Olskies

Formed in the late 1980s at the University of North Carolina, Olskies were an alt-rock force defined by raw energy, melodic grit, and the distinctive emotional vocals of frontman Dan Nichols. The lineup was rounded out by Louis Shields and David Brainard (guitars), Rich Avery (bass), and Mike Duffy (drums). The quintet quickly became staples of North Carolina’s indie music scene, regularly packing clubs like Cat’s Cradle and The Brewery, and sharing stages with then-emerging acts such as Hootie & the Blowfish and Ben Folds Five. Their self-titled debut, recorded in just four days at Mike Gardner Studios, captured their unfiltered sound and spirit and now resides in the Fervor Records catalog.
