Born out of the vibrant creative energy of late-1990s Los Angeles, Saku was the inspired collaboration between vocalist Terra Green Gold and producer Kevin Crosslin. Introduced by then-unknown DJ Valida, the pair instantly clicked. Heavily influenced by artists like Portishead, Tricky, and Massive Attack, the duo got to work crafting their own signature blend of downtempo trip-hop. Their lush, atmospheric sound quietly gained traction, earning underground acclaim and frequent late-night spins on tastemaker station KCRW. Eschewing traditional industry paths, Saku turned down multiple label offers and chose instead to self-produce in Crosslin’s home studio. Unburdened by commercial pressures, the duo focused deeply on songwriting, sonic exploration, and pushing the recording technology of the era to its creative edge. Fervor is honored that Saku has entrusted Fervor Records with their vibey sonic legacy.
