The brainchild of Milt Reder and Bill Lane, Go Boom evolved from the popular Boston based new wave band The Catch. Reder and Lane were embracing the emerging technologies of MIDI, drum machines, sampling and sequencing. Coupled with their 8-track reel to reel they put their new studio setup to work crafting song, after song, after song. Though their recordings sparked periodic “flurries of industry interest,” a major breakthrough proved elusive.
Following Go Boom’s initial chapter, Bill Lane shifted gears to pursue a remarkable scientific career in advanced protein sequencing technology at Brandeis University and Harvard. Milt Reder, while also practicing medicine for over 40 years, remained deeply embedded in the music world. He toured internationally as guitarist, producer, and songwriter with Boston R&B powerhouse Barrence Whitfield, and built a successful career composing for film and television. His credits include Sex and the City, Dexter, and numerous reality TV shows, all from his Rear Window Studio in Boston.
Now, decades later, Go Boom’s rich archive of 1980s multitrack recordings has found new life. Fervor Records is proud to bring these long-overlooked gems to light, reintroducing Go Boom to a new generation of listeners, and honoring their place in the broader story of American independent music.
