The Sedum Shadows

In the late 1960s, Ray Parker’s organ defined the sound of Toronto’s The Sedum Shadows. Joining Parker were Ken Lavalette on guitar, Bill Briggs on bass, and Ian Wadell on drums. The Canadian quartet signed to their hometown label, Trend Records, owned by music impresario Merv Buchanan. Buchanan produced and recorded the band at Trend’s Farmhouse Studio in West Bank, Ontario. The sessions yielded their sole single, featuring “Anatomy of a Shadow,” an organ-drenched, fuzz-guitar-infused garage psych jam, featuring the A-side “Thinking Away,” a song channeling the pop-centric soul vibe of Booker T. & the M.G.’s. Trend Records released the 7-inch single in June 1969. Fervor Records proudly perpetuates the legacies of The Sedum Shadows and Trend Records with their vibrant song catalog.
