1992 was a legendary year for the Phoenix, Arizona music scene.

While Maryvale native CeCe Peniston was riding high on her international Billboard-charting hit “Finally,” the Gin Blossoms were dropping their quadruple-platinum debut, New Miserable Experience, across town in Tempe.

Tucked away in the Sunnyslope enclave, production crew 2 da Groove (David Hilker & John Costello) was busy shaping its own distinct sound, cutting tracks in its Wild Whirled Recording studio with West Phoenix vocalist Diana Lee. One of the results of those sessions was “My Baby Loves To Make Love,” which showcased Diana’s incredible vocal prowess and the team’s deft songwriting and production skills.

While the tune didn’t achieve the massive commercial heights of its contemporaries, it remains a brilliant, lost relic of early ’90s hip-hop-infused soul. 34 years later, this hidden gem is finally getting its due landing its third placement in a major TV show. On July 2nd, tune in to Episode 303 of the Netflix comedy “Survival Of The Thickest” to hear it in action!
