BillyLee-Janey

Bio

Midwest powerhouse BillyLee Janey is a gifted guitarist, vocalist and prolific songwriter. He’s achieved great success as both a solo artist and as a collaborator in his bands Truth and Janey, The Janeys, The BillyLee Janey Band, and with his son Bryce for the better part of six decades. The veteran guitarist got his start in 1966 as part of a trio that made $40 to play a YMCA in his native Iowa. BillyLee parlayed that experience into a lifelong career in music.

In 1969 BillyLee formed the much heralded Hard Rock trio Truth and Janey. The band released their first 45 in 1972 and in 1976 self-released the highly acclaimed LP “No Rest For The Wicked.” Truth and Janey gigged relentlessly, ultimately finding themselves touring with the likes of Leslie West and Blue Oyster Cult. The group released two additional LPs and original Truth and Janey vinyl is highly prized by collectors the world over. The band was inducted into the Iowa Rock n’ Roll Association’s Hall of Fame in 2005.

Next up were The Janeys, active from 1990 into the 2000s. The trio was a family affair featuring BillyLee’s wife, drummer Jerri Janey, and their son, Bryce (guitar). With three CD releases to their name, The Janey’s brought the family Blues jam to life playing shows around the Midwest.

BillyLee also forged a successful solo career releasing nine solo CDs. He’s been inducted into the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame, has five Grammy entry mentions in Jazz, Pop, and Blues, and has shared the stage with the likes of Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, U2, The Police, Savoy Brown, Johnny Winter, Koko Taylor, Junior Wells, Lonnie Brooks, and John Mayall to name just a few. BillyLee Janey is a force to be reckoned with and Fervor Records is proud to have him in our ranks!
