Originally from the prairies of Regina, Saskatchewan, Billie J. Helmkay is a Canadian talent who successfully bridged her “Queen City” roots with the international country music scene. Honing her craft on the local Regina circuit, performing at venues like the Horseshoe Lounge, Gillie’s, and Caesar’s Palace Restaurant, she soon caught the attention of Comstock Records. In 1984, Helmkay emerged as a standout voice in the country-crossover movement. Her breakout Comstock single, “You’re Spreadin’ My Hurt Around,” reached #88 on the Cash Box Top 100 and earned a “Recommended” distinction from Billboard magazine.
Billie’s reach expanded further through TV appearances including the Canadian country variety show “Big Sky Country” and the syndicated series “Sun Country,” where she showcased her Saskatchewan-bred style alongside other top-tier country music stars.
