In 1982, a year after the release of their debut self-titled EP, and the very same year Culture Club unleashed their reggae-influenced worldwide hit “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me,” Blackwood-Laird recorded “Picture of a Girl.” Leaning hard into the same electro-reggae vibe that was about to blow up the charts with Eddy Grant’s “Electric Avenue,” “Picture of a Girl” combined the duo’s new wave/pop sensibilities with signature harmonies, delicious synth hooks, and an infectious backbeat. Surprisingly, the song was never released and remained buried on a long-forgotten master tape for over 40 years. That tape eventually found its way to Fervor Records, and today we’re proud to share Blackwood-Laird’s “Picture of a Girl” with the world.
