Maurice

In 1971, Maurice (AKA Maurice Rice) released two 7” singles including “What I Got, I Got (and Ain’t Gonna Lose),” b/w “Is It True,” and “Love Peace and Joy.” Both records came out on the Roxbury, Massachusetts’ My Record label. The scorching, toe-tappin’, booty-shakin’ Northern Soul ripper is a bit of a rare Funk mystery. However, the single certainly extols the talent of Maurice as a singer and showman. The more ethereal “Love Peace and Joy” single shows another soulful side of Maurice featuring his strong, emotional vocals over a mid-tempo orchestrated jam. During his career, Maurice worked with famed drummer/producer/arranger Herschel Dwellingham (AKA Herschey Barr). These incredible period Soul recordings are now available from Fervor Records!
