Marcus Latief Scott’s Ima Winna In New Gyllenhaal Film
This Fall, Academy Award nominees Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis team up in a powerful inner-city education drama, Won’t Back Down.
Also starring Academy Award winner Holly Hunter, the highly anticipated film profiles a parent and parent-teacher who join forces to fight big bureaucracy in hopes of turning around their impoverished community and failing school system.
The official trailer for the upcoming release features the very appropriate (and emotional) Kelly Clarkson hit Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You). And as one may imagine, the rest of the soundtrack will be sprinkled with other songs of the same sentiment, including Marcus Latief Scott’s Ima Winna, from his self-titled 2012 Fervor Records release.
In the opening verse of the inspiring rap song, Scott states “Might take a fall but I gets right up, stay motivated, this is not luck,” then proceeds to chant the chorus “Ima winna cause I conquer all things..”
Marcus Latief Scott, a.k.a. “Goldie”, is no stranger to being included in major films. Not only was the opening cut (Got Me In A Trance) from his recent debut album used to set the tone in the very first scene of the 2012 horror-comedy blockbuster sequel, Piranha 3DD, it was also included as the lead-off track in the official movie soundtrack release.
When asked about his inclusion in the forthcoming drama, Scott said “It’s exciting to be part of a such a deep and meaningful production. I mean, I loved the Piranha 3DD movie (especially all those D’s!). It was lots of fun, but this is a different thing altogether.”
Won’t Back Down hits theaters nationwide on September 28th, but in the meantime, enjoy the tune, streaming in full below..
