The Buttons

The-Buttons-aka-Romantic-Noise

Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, The Buttons were a high-voltage four-piece who fused power pop and punk with undeniable swagger. Originally formed in 1977 as The Romantic Noise, the group changed their moniker to The Buttons due to confusion with Detroit new wave outfit The Romantics. Fronted by guitarist and vocalist Willie Phoenix, alongside John Ballor (guitar), Greg Glasgow (bass), and Dee Hunt (drums), the band continued to make a name for themselves on the live circuit, sharing stages with icons like The Ramones, Judas Priest, Squeeze, and Talking Heads. The quartet hit the studio with Phoenix producing six songs. They issued two of the recordings on their self-released single, “Blue Bicycle” b/w “Hey Little Girl.” Originally pressed on blue vinyl, the 45’s label touted, “from the album THE BUTTONS.” Sadly, there never was a full album. However, after 45 years, The Buttons’ back catalog is now proudly in the loving hands of Fervor Records and is available on the reissued single and the EP “Hanging by a Thread.” The Buttons folded in 1980, but their impact was lasting. Following the breakup, the ever-charismatic Willie Phoenix continued his musical ascent, signing with A&M Records and launching the next chapter of his storied career.
