The Catch emerged from the vibrant Boston music scene of the early 1980s. Featuring Milt Reder (guitar, vocals), Bill Lane (bass, vocals), Andy Shapiro (guitar, vocals), and Art Hook (drums, vocals), the quartet quickly carved out a reputation for their high-energy live shows and memorable tunes.
In 1982, the band recorded a collection of original material at the now-legendary Sound Techniques Studio in Watertown, Massachusetts. The result was their debut EP, “Girls in Uniform,” released on the independent Splash Records label. The record immediately struck a chord with DJs debuting at #24 on the New England DJ Association Magazine’s “Rockin’ Chart” and quickly gained traction through the influential DJ pool “Rockpool” in Florida. Fueled by positive reviews and robust club airplay, The Catch toured the Northeast, building momentum and expanding their fanbase. Back home in Boston, the band enjoyed strong local radio support, which helped propel “Girls in Uniform” onto national playlists. The buzz attracted the attention of Important Records, a Jamaica, NY based distributor, which reissued the EPs second pressing.
Despite the record’s success and growing national exposure, major label interest remained elusive. Undeterred, founding members Reder and Lane embraced new music technology transitioning into their next project: Go Boom. Today, Fervor Records is proud to preserve and promote the legacy of The Catch, a band whose infectious sound and artistic ambition captured the spirit of Boston’s 1980s new wave scene.
