Sometimes band names draw you in before the needle finds the first groove on the record and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s The Interior Castle is no exception to this phenomenon. Active from the 70s through the 90s, members of the Mazzei family (Francine, Michael, Therese, and Loretta) began singing together as children and eventually became The Interior Castle after their father built a recording studio in their family home. Their sound is infused with pop sensibility with Michael and Francine leading the way as Therese and Loretta provide more than capable background vocals. However, harmony is really where the Mazzei family excels. Their vocal sound is highly reminiscent of an immensely popular Swedish Pop band from the 70s and 80s. The Interior Castle’s music now resides at Fervor Records.
