On the Fervor Records 1970’s Mariachi release, we showcase the incredible talents of Chilo Escobedo accompanied by the most renowned Mariachi band of all time, the incomparable Mariachi Vargas of Mexico City.
Chilo grew up in a Spanish speaking home in Phoenix in the 1930s surrounded by the sounds of Mariachi. By the 1940s, the music Chilo loved was popularized in major motion pictures. The late ’50s and early ’60s saw many mariachi groups immigrate to cities such as Los Angeles and Phoenix where the genre continued to gain popularity and would become etched in American Culture at a national level.
By the mid-1970s, Chilo was a veteran Mariachi songwriter and performer having played for US presidents and governors as well as countless fans throughout the Southwest. Escobedo traveled from Phoenix to Mexico City to record his first full length LP Su Voz Y Sus Canciones accompanied by the great Mariachi Vargas. These recordings comprise the centerpiece of this stunning collection.
Whether you are a longtime fan or a casual listener of Mariachi, we invite you to celebrate the passionate vocals, beautiful arrangements and heartfelt performances on Fervor Records 1970’s Mariachi.
