Westside

Formed in 1981, Minneapolis funk/R&B outfit Westside has been lighting up stages for decades. In 1986, the band’s infectious jam “The Sweep,” complete with its choreographed dance routine, blared from TV sets nationwide when Westside racked up a win on Ed McMahon’s massively popular TV talent showcase Star Search. Recorded in 1985, “The Sweep” perfectly embodies the Minneapolis sound that dominated the charts alongside Prince, Morris Day, The Time, and Ready for the World.
