Hailing from New Haven, Connecticut, Pulse rose from the ashes of two area Garage Rock sensations: The Shags, who released a string of singles on multiple labels from 1965 – 1967, and Bram Rigg Set, who offered up one single on the Kayden label that hit #1 in Brazil. Bram Rigg Set was managed by music entrepreneur, engineer, producer, label and studio owner Thomas “Doc” Cavalier. Doc, a former dentist, also went by the moniker Trod Nossel and dubbed his recording studio and management company the same. Doc realized the potential of a collaboration between the former members of The Shags and Bram Rigg Set. Pulse was born. He inked the group to a record/management deal and the sextet hit the studio with Cavalier behind the console. The result of their first studio effort garnered instant success. In 1967 ATCO Records signed the band and released the single Can Can Girl b/w Bruitt Bradley crediting the band on the 45 as “The Pulse.”

Pulse, comprised of Carl Donnell (vocals), Peter Neri (guitar, vocals), Paul Rosano (bass), Richard Bednarcyzrk (keyboards), Benet Segal (drums) and Jeffrey Potter (harmonica), followed the success of their debut release with Another Woman b/w My Old Boy. This time Trod Nossel opted to release the record on their newly minted label, Poison Ring Records. In 1968 the upstart label pressed the initial radio promo copies featuring a black and white label. In 1969 they issued it as the official lead off single for the band’s stunning self-titled full length Poison Ring Records LP. Heavy, bluesy, fuzz-drenched Hard Psych Rock adorned their nine song masterpiece. Poison Ring also released the title on 8-Track cartridge. The UK label Major Minor, distributed by Decca Records, issued the album in 1969 for the European market.

Fast forward to 2018… Trod Nossel partnered with Fervor Records to continue to perpetuate the band’s incredible legacy. Fervor has landed the music of Pulse in hit TV shows including For All Mankind (Apple), Law & Order: Organized Crime (NBC), Minx (Max) and Griselda (Netflix).

Pulse was prolific and continued to record through 1970. 17 additional recordings were unearthed in the Trod Nossel archives in 2023. These were issued digitally by Poison Ring/Fervor in 2024 as The Lost Recordings. For the first time ever Mascot Records offers The Lost Recordings on CD!
